A Few of My Favorite Things
(Twila Belk)
In The Sound of Music, a thunderstorm sent all the von Trapp children running to their governess, Maria, for comfort, and she sang them a song about her favorite things. Do you remember it? It starts like this: "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens . . ." Because I couldn't get the tune out of my head, I created my own longer version of the song. Here it is—

Raindrops from heaven and answers to prayer; the smell of sweet lilacs wafting through air; God's constant presence and joy that He brings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Squishy, fat babies with grins that are broad; serving a huge God whose actions are awed; soaring like eagles with wide, spread-out wings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Homegrown tomatoes and fresh cantaloupe; fellowship shared with the God who gives hope; being a child of the great King of kings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Laughter and tulips and sunshine so bright; good news and rainbows, the gift of eyesight; God's wondrous provision and other blessings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Praising my Father and sensing His smile; visiting friends and staying a while; playing with grandkids that pull my heartstrings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Big hugs and God's Word and grace overflowing; love unconditional way beyond knowing; promises kept and mountains with springs—these are a few of my favorite things.
God's fun surprises and angel food cakes; poinsettias at Christmas time, frosty snowflakes; starry-filled skies on quiet evenings—these are a few of my favorite things.
Unshakable truths, an incomparable God; His fabulous handiwork I want to applaud; nice opportunities, new beginnings—these are a few of my favorite things.
When the trials come, or bad happenings, or I'm having strife, I simply remember my favorite things, and then I am loving life.
